We had a booth at the OMEA conference on January 15th & 16th. We talked with folks from all across the state who jumped at the opportunity to get some materials to help them work with their choral groups. We let many people know that Barbershop is alive and well in Oregon. Both teachers and students spent time with us. Interest was shown in the possibility of attending one of the Society’s workshops as well as Harmony Explosion.
We managed to give away all three BHS teddybears. Early Saturday morning a lady strode up to the booth to thank us for the teddy her daughter had received from us the day before when her husband came buy pushing the stroller. Later in the day Hugh noticed a young girl getting wiggly while her parents talked. He went over with a teddy and asked her mother if it would be OK to give it to her. She teared up and said, "For sure!” The little girl jumped for joy and shouted with glee. Turned out that she was deaf, and her mother was trying like crazy to get her attention to have her sign thank you. The last teddy went to a very young lady who had missed her afternoon nap, but gave Hugh a big smile when her dad showed her the teddy. The dad later looked us up at the booth to thank us.
It was a successful event and was time well spent.
