Directors of the choirs at this years Boys & Young Men’s Choral Festival
The Pacific International Choral Festivals (picfest) presents a series of choral gatherings in cooperation with the Oregon Bach Festival. Odd years, such as 2017, include the Treble Choral Festival and the Boys & Young Men’s Choral Festival (up to age 18). Even years are Youth Choral Festival and the Young Women’s Choral Festival.
There could have been photos of me counting money. There could have been photos of Hugh setting up the signs on the pathways. There could have been photos of Dan Wolfe driving his golf cart. But no, none of these opportunities struck the photographer (Alan Halfhill-HCNW photographer) as worthy. So who wins the Cascade Chorus most photogenic award at Harmony College this weekend? Dave Peterman. Why Dave you ask? Remember, Dave was looking around for a ride so he wouldn't have to make the drive himself? Finally he said, Voila-I'll bring my wife, Judy. In that one moment of wisdom he became more photogenic than the rest of us COMBINED.
It was truly special. The UO women won the triple crown of titles – NCAA cross country, NCAA indoor and NCAA outdoor. The first time ever by a women’s track and field program. And we were there.
However, we SAW none of it. Check out the photo of our concessions booth. Once the lines started they never ended. We moved hundreds of hot dogs, burgers, Vegan burgers WITH CHEESE (don’t ask), gallons of soda, huge containers of popcorn, coffee, hot chocolate (look at the sky). It was a long but rewarding day.
It was a cold day with moments of drizzle. There was still track and we were invited back to Hayward Field to staff the primary food booth for the event. Above you will see Mary, Joanie, Roy, Hugh's back and, yes folks, that IS Bill Devereaux awaiting the customers. The weather did not dampen the performances on the track, but did reduce the crowd a bit. It was still beneficial. We made some bucks and worked out some kinks in the booth layout. We are ready for the larger crowds Hayward will provide the rest of this month. Drop by, say Hello, and make Dave's day by ordering Nachos.
What a wonderful Christmas Show December 11. After all the work, the cast of players gathers to relax and actually get to hear the other groups that were on the show. You see snapshots of Social Insecurity and the Greater Eugene Chapter Sweet Adelines. We were pleased to have these groups (and others) join us to create our Christmas Show 2016. We'll be back next year. Watch for us, won't you?
Last night we recognized the group of men that joined us for our annual Christmas Community Chorus (a few were ill and missed this photo op). We are looking forward to presenting our annual Christmas Show December 11, 2:30PM at Sheldon High School.
We'd love to see you there, too. Deena Wolfe, out ticket guru, tells us we should be able to take care of any walk up folk wishing to join us. You'll find Deena at the ticket desk inside the Sheldon Auditorium. She'll be the one with the line and a smile.
Thank you to the millions of veterans who have served and are serving our country. To those who are currently deployed, our thoughts are with you and we hope you will return home safely. It takes a selfless person to give up a comfortable lifestyle, be away from their family, stand ready to protect us at any time and give everything they have for our country.
One of the most powerful statements about our armed services members is: “All gave some. Some gave all.” Those fallen members gave their lives so that we can continue to live in a democratic society where the American Dream can still be possible.
My thanks to the Iowa State Daily for these well written words.
At the recent House of Delegates meeting at the District Convention President Vic Fitzpatrick was honored to receive this 70 year Certificate on behalf of the membership, past, present and future.
Only five years to our 75th anniversary gala Celebration!
Setting up our choral risers is a job that must be done every week. Rocky and his stalwart staff haul the risers into our rehearsal hall and set them up. They also take down and store the risers at the end of each rehearsal. Yes, they are the younger members of our chorus, and we appreciate every one of them. This is one of those jobs where people likely do not say Thank You often enough.
