It was a cold day with moments of drizzle. There was still track and we were invited back to Hayward Field to staff the primary food booth for the event. Above you will see Mary, Joanie, Roy, Hugh's back and, yes folks, that IS Bill Devereaux awaiting the customers. The weather did not dampen the performances on the track, but did reduce the crowd a bit. It was still beneficial. We made some bucks and worked out some kinks in the booth layout. We are ready for the larger crowds Hayward will provide the rest of this month. Drop by, say Hello, and make Dave's day by ordering Nachos.

What a wonderful Christmas Show December 11. After all the work, the cast of players gathers to relax and actually get to hear the other groups that were on the show. You see snapshots of Social Insecurity and the Greater Eugene Chapter Sweet Adelines. We were pleased to have these groups (and others) join us to create our Christmas Show 2016. We'll be back next year. Watch for us, won't you?
Last night we recognized the group of men that joined us for our annual Christmas Community Chorus (a few were ill and missed this photo op). We are looking forward to presenting our annual Christmas Show December 11, 2:30PM at Sheldon High School.
We'd love to see you there, too. Deena Wolfe, out ticket guru, tells us we should be able to take care of any walk up folk wishing to join us. You'll find Deena at the ticket desk inside the Sheldon Auditorium. She'll be the one with the line and a smile.
Thank you to the millions of veterans who have served and are serving our country. To those who are currently deployed, our thoughts are with you and we hope you will return home safely. It takes a selfless person to give up a comfortable lifestyle, be away from their family, stand ready to protect us at any time and give everything they have for our country.
One of the most powerful statements about our armed services members is: “All gave some. Some gave all.” Those fallen members gave their lives so that we can continue to live in a democratic society where the American Dream can still be possible.
My thanks to the Iowa State Daily for these well written words.
At the recent House of Delegates meeting at the District Convention President Vic Fitzpatrick was honored to receive this 70 year Certificate on behalf of the membership, past, present and future.
Only five years to our 75th anniversary gala Celebration!
Setting up our choral risers is a job that must be done every week. Rocky and his stalwart staff haul the risers into our rehearsal hall and set them up. They also take down and store the risers at the end of each rehearsal. Yes, they are the younger members of our chorus, and we appreciate every one of them. This is one of those jobs where people likely do not say Thank You often enough.
As a member of the Evergreen District Operations Team, I attended various meetings at the recent convention in Vancouver, WA. At our Thursday night board meeting, the president called us to order without the official gavel. He told us that at the airport his luggage was inspected and the gavel drew interest. It was ultimately determined that the gavel was actually a hammer, therefore a potential weapon, therefore it would not be allowed on the airplane.
Storage space was rented and the gavel spent its weekend in the airport. I didn't miss it. I always felt the loud sound at the beginning of the meeting interferred with my nap.
So a word to the wise--when travelling by air, leave the gavel at home.
I thought it would be appropriate to show you some of our booth gang at work. Here you see a gaggle of folk awaiting the next request for service. We do appreciate the assistance of wives, s/o's and friends of Cascade. Yes, we let Gary have a pencil AND a calculator. But notice we kept Leanne close by to assist as needed.
"It never rains in Autzen Stadium". -- Stolen from Don Essig. Don used this statement in 1990 after umbrellas were banned in Autzen. He then had a 34 game rainless streak. Yes, you get interesting factual information here as well as great music.
See you in Autzen.
After an exciting day working an Autzen Stadium food booth for a futbol (aka soccer) game, we have now been assigned a booth at the home football (US football) games. We appreciate the opportunity and hope to see some friends at a game sometime soon. Here we find Rich Watkins supervising his booth crew. Go Ducks!
As noted in our private Yahoo Groups, Denny passed away yesterday (06/27/2016). Denny was our director in the mid 1980's through our International performance as pirates in San Francisco in 1990. For those not on the Evernet, Dan Tangarone spoke with Chic and she is doing OK (her brother also passing 3 days ago).
Denny's Memorial Service will be Monday July 18 at 2:00PM. The location is His Place Community Church 1480 South Burlington Blvd, Burlington WA.
